About Art Avenue

About

Art Avenue's mission is to help increase exposure to all Canadian visual artists by showcasing their exceptional art to the world.

Art Avenue, a registered trademark, is owned and operated by Technomages, a leading edge web development company in Ottawa, Ontario.

Art Avenue was conceived by Thomas Leroux and Denis Desjardins in September 1999 under the code name "Artists.ca". While Denis was on vacation in September and October, riding in the back of a truck around Africa, Tom began researching the idea of doing a web site for Canadian artists. Later in the new millennium, the idea started to turn into reality (or more precisely, virtual reality).

In March 2000, Tom and Denis started the company Technomages. The goal was to create a virtual portfolio for Canada's visual arts. After a lot of planning, the two Technomages spent many hours during the summer of 2000 building Art Avenue.

Art Avenue was officially launched on September 11, 2000. Version 2.0 was launched on January 8, 2001.
