Maciek Kozlowski - Painter
To represent something in it's realistic state is the highest form of flattery but it is, essentially, boring. To represent something with it's deeper meaning, it's hopes, it's aspirations and to reflect those feelings in the viewer is far more interesting. The accentuation of things as they do not necessarily appear is the mission in this art. To represent a ferocious flower, to catch the twinkle in someone's eye, to catch a dream in the curl of someone's sleeping lips is the challenge. The art is about catching the little secrets and reflecting them to you the viewer and saying "Hey how about that". Maciek Kozlowski was born in communist Warsaw, Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1968 at the age of 10. His grandmother, who was an artist and sculptor taught him how to see by showing him shapes, animals, and faces, in the textures of the ceramic bathtub when he was a little boy. After much searching his painting took a serious turn in 1986 and resulted in a joint exhibition with Simon Koo in 1989. Maciek also works in e-video design, where his projects won the prestigious Canadian Informatics Productivity Award (CIPA) in 1998 and the all government gold medal of excellence at GTEC in 1997. His works are in oil on canvas, video, photography, and digital art.
